Study Tips for Math Class

If it has been a while since you last math class do not assume that you can pick up where you left off.  Look over your old textbook or buy a math workbook to refresh you memory. Then ask an adviser to schedule a placement test. The outcomes of the placement test will tell you were to start.

Accept the official results of the placement exam.
You may feel you are wasting time taking a math class that's beneath you, but you will waste even more time if you fail out.

Never miss class. Each math class builds on the previous classes.

Do your homework right after class.
Do the work while the lecture is still fresh in your mind.

If you don't understand a math problem ask for help immediately. DO NOT WAIT! Speak to your instructor or seek out a tutor for help. Many colleges and high schools have math labs and free tutoring services.

Buy a math workbook that is relative to the class you are taking. You only learn math by doing math problems. The more math questions you do the better off you will be.

Use the math workbook you bought. It does you no good on a book self or in a backpack.

Sit in the front of the classroom and make friends with people that are positive about the class. Listening to a classmate with a negative attitude will only discourage you from doing your best.

To sum up the tips, start at the right level, stay on top of things, do a little extra work, stay positive and ask for help if needed.
